He has been playing traditional music since his high school days, and in Oregon had a band, The Thrown Together Band, whose CDs were very popular. He plays guitar, pennywhistle and the balalaika, and these days specializes in 18th and 19th century Celtic and American tunes with happy forays into 20th country-western music.
